E-I-E-I-O

We know you love oysters, but do you know what it takes to farm them? Especially when you’re up against the man. Check out Greg Garrett’s Forbidden Oysters.

Salty. Sweet. Buttery. And we are sticking it to the man got them on the menu tonight. Oh and did we mention they are gi-gan-tic? A big, big love.

Last night we hung out at home. Together. Doesn’t happen all that much. So what did we do? Watched Season 1 of The Sopranos. And ate Chinese food. #glamourous

From 1996-2002 we lived sans television so we’re catching up slowly but surely.

Chariots Of Fire

So while most of you (husband included) slept in this Sunday morning, others ran 15k a la The Boilermaker. Checkout the serious game-face the MIL threw down.

The SIL has been running The Boilermaker since 1992. That’s 21 consecutive years folks. Or 195.3 miles. That’s a lot.

And keeping with the 36 year old post-race tradition, Matt Brewing Company donates their award winning Saranac Beer, serving over 200 kegs before noon on race day. Congratulations to all the runners. Impressive way to start the day.

Manhattanhenge

While hard to beat the thrill of a zombie apocalypse, the city’s bi-annual (as in 2x year, not every other year) Manhattanhenge is definitely up there. And tomorrow!

You know when the Museum of Natural History has Manhattanhenge on their website that this is a straight up, legit science-y happening folks.

When the setting Sun aligns precisely with the Manhattan street grid, creating a radiant glow of light across Manhattan’s brick and steel canyons, simultaneously illuminating both the north and south sides of every cross street of the borough’s grid. A rare and beautiful sight.

Um in other words, go stand on 14th, 23rd, 34th, 42nd or 57th street for the best views and remember to look west, as in the sun sets in the west. 8pm sharp.

When Life Gives You Lemons

Make bourbon lemonade! Or at least make a test batch to try out before putting it on the actual menu, as in our case.

a super scientific process – not

We’ve kinda noticed you folks have become addicted taken a liking to the wife’s whiskey cake. So we figured that we are in need of a liquid version that even a non-brown swilling sally would enjoy.

Who’s up for being our guinea pig?

Walkin’ After Midnight

Not much to be said, given this heat wave…although it’s three times hotter in the kitchen than outside. #melty

Thankfully tomorrow will be merely a high of 86, which means no one (wife) has to take BuckShowalter out at the crack of dawn in order to beat the heat.

Being included in one of the premier geekfest of beer is like Christmas in July! So thanks for the props Carolyn.

Here’s the beast re-enacting a scene from Napoleon Dynamite.

That was pretty much how his time was spent upstate. And now we’re back.
