Summer Loving

Well we were trying to keep this just amongst friends (that would be you guys) but apparently NYT has a different plan.

Just as Robin Thicke has the song of summer, Vinho Verde is the wine of summer. And with a little fizz of a light fruity body and low enough alcohol content to easily consume two bottles or more we’re totally on board.

It’s ok, you can cheat on rosé… we won’t tell.

Bananaaaaaaah Potato Naaaaahhhh

Listen, we play nice with the big box chains that moved into the hood. But when developers start throwing out new pretend names for the neighborhood… Northwest East Village? Um, no.

hey thanks for the pix:

hey thanks for the pix: the jefferson

211 E 13th street is a cool new residential building. All good. But for some reason the developers feel the need to include a new neighborhood name as one of the amenities.

and thanks again: the jefferson

It’s all ba ba ba bananas if you ask us. We love EV Grieve’s most excellent reaction: everybody knows that this is Midtown South.

Dumb Ways To Die

I solemnly swear to not do dumb stuff around trains

Dumb Ways to Die the safety campaign created for Metro Trains won five Grand Prix awards at the advertising industry’s excuse to go drink rose by the bucket-full Cannes festival.

The MTA might want to get in on this.

Can You Tell Me How To Get

En route to/from the shop, we often are stopped and asked directions. Am guessing leash in hand, tethered to the beast is a clear indicator we live somewhere nearby.

Always happy to provide a little guidance, we’ll share whatever knowledge we may have. Over the last couple of years we’ve noticed that many of you are seeking the same information:

  • Is east this way or that way?
  • Is west this way or that way?
  • Where’s the PATH station?
  • Where’s Carrie Bradshaw’s apartment?
  • Where’s Ground Zero?
  • Where’s Washington Square Park?
  • Where’s Christopher Street?
  • What kind of dog is that?

Any other questions or directions needed, just let us know.

Unreal the passing of James Gandolfini, right?! Awesome on the Sopranos but we also have a great New York story about him, as it includes BuckShowalter.

the old rug…before i peed all over it

Three months old and a mere 12lbs when we signed up for puppy socialization classes at the Tribeca Soho Animal Hospital and for three consecutive Sundays eight puppies and their owners learned how to behave.

four day old beast

Six dogs were teeny tiny and two: BuckShowalter and Duke were brutes. Like an awesomely bad 1950’s Godzilla movie, they lumbered about destroying everything in their path. Scaring the crap out of puppies and owners alike. Literally.

perfect example why dogs should wear pants

Gandolfini was Duke’s owner, only we (wife) didn’t realize who he was until the third and final session. A sudden under-the-breath ohmygod was all the husband needed to know that it was finally known.

So our walk home went something like this:

WIFE: you knew?
HUSBAND: yes of course I knew from the moment we walked in and I saw him
WIFE: why didn’t you tell me?
HUSBAND: it would have been Billy Baldwin all over again
WIFE: how was I to know he was standing right behind me?
HUSBAND: that’s why I told you not to look
WIFE: if you tell someone not to look, they will automatically look – it’s uncontrollable
HUSBAND: this conversation is uncontrollable

Only in NY folks, only in NY. Our condolences to the Gandolfini family, an amazing actor and awesome dog owner.

Barracuda

Tried out a new cake mold for the wife’s whiskey cake. What do you think?

While no rainbows in sight, all this rain and humidity made for a pretty cool baking backdrop.

I’m The Man

Douglas Tirola’s documentary Hey Bartender premiered at the East Village Cinema. An ode to cocktail culture from two very different perspectives.

Storytelling of equal parts pretentious and humbling, interspersed with industry veteran commentary. Impossible to watch without a proper cocktail. Go ahead, we dare you to try.

Meh. Just another typical day on the interwebs.

MDMA? LSD? M&M? You be the judge.

Bette Davis Eyes

So we, most likely along with every other restaurant whose contact info is listed on the interwebs, had this sitting in our inbox this morning.

Appreciate JS Casting including us in the cattle open call and we do love us some House Hunters International, but there’s no way a camera crew would even fit in our place!

Yet certainly would welcome a kitchen renovation, hmmm…maybe we should apply to Cousin on Call. But then again, we share plenty with you guys as it is. And all without a tv show.
