Crab If You Need It

The folks (husband) rolled into town earlier this week and we (wife) made them crab cakes for lunch.

Normally we avoid all things touristy. Except in 1998 we (wife) took Rick’s husband Tom’s best friend’s 16 year old daughter to Lucky Cheng’s. But for the MIL we braved the crowds at Eataly. And enjoyed lovely rooftop drinks together.

Constant Craving

It’s a Monday tradition, late-night dinner together in the neighborhood. Incognito. Last night we ventured outside (way) our Village zone and went to  Crave Fishbar.

Walls adorned with old family portraits: Jason & Andrew Steinthal’s great grandfather

Yup, the couple that own a seafood restaurant traveled all the way to midtown to eat fish. And it was super good. Started with oysters – duh, followed by more raw: spicy scallop (uh-may-zing) and fluke. Then lobster curry (too hot for husband but he is spice-impaired) and grilled octopus.

So if you’re craving fish and for some weird reason we’re not open, definitely check out Crave Fishbar. It’s worth the trip.

Phish Head

We order daily from the market to provide freshly (not a real word we know, know how we know because we invented it) simple seafood. You folks eat a lot of squid.

We’ve got monster swordfish in the house tonight. In addition to being our fish of the day special, we will be serving it as a ceviche too.

Join The Jamboree

Sad news, hearing the passing of Annette Funicello. One of the original Disney kids, Annette was born in Utica, the town next to where we (husband) grew up.

And at 1:03 check out Jimmie, clearly the real life inspiration behind Dazed and Confused‘s David Wooderson. All right, all right, all right.

De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da

Better than awesome. This is the ultimate thank you and one of the many reasons why we love our friends Rick & Tom. Even if they are Red Sox fans.

Sent the Wife’s Whiskey Cake as a birthday treat for Rick. Yup the cake can survive USPS, who knew? And since Tom’s birthday had coincided with Sandy, his little gift of paper speakers sat wrapped for many months in need of being mailed so in same box they went. Just this past weekend, this gem landed in my inbox!

Chock full of 24 years worth of in-jokes sh*t we’re getting old but still had to share.

See you upstate!
