The Chicken In Black

Chicken riggies was invented* upstate in Utica, NY. Chicken, rigatoni and peppers are the primary ingredients. It’s everything else that varies recipe by recipe.

Snuck spicy sausage in with the chicken

So after reading over eight recipes, we made it using all the ingredients that were common denominators. The result? Apparently it wasn’t legit chicken riggies.

An important ingredient, yum

An important ingredient, yum

Here’s what we used:

  • boneless/skinless chicken thighs
  • mushrooms
  • onion
  • red bell peppers
  • garlic
  • hot cherry peppers
  • dry sherry
  • 28 oz can tomatoes
  • heavy cream
  • rigatoni

Still stumped as to how this is deemed not real chicken riggies. Does anyone else have a version to share?

See you upstate!

Pretty Good At Drinkin’ Beer

A sneak peak of what’s to come from Oceanside, NY. Tapping Barrier Brewing Co this weekend.

Beer-geekness and NY pride aside, these guys have a crazy story – Evan Klein (Sixpoint Craft Ales veteran), founded the brewery in June 2010, moved into fancy new digs in March 2012 only to be crushed by Sandy a few months later.

So we’ll be expecting you this weekend. In the meantime give their facebook page a like or two.

Pulling Mussels From The Shell

Can’t help but smile when folks kvetch about our menu only offering seafood. Foursquare provides ample proof that we also have cheese and charcuterie plates.

We Are The World

Seems we have attracted a bit of an international following…noticed this morning the top ten languages in which folks read our blog. We’re like the UN of oysters.

hey thanks for the pix: purseblog

hey thanks for the pix: purse forum

  1. english: would be in big trouble otherwise
  2. slovak: say what? well we did live in Moskva circa 1998
  3. english (as in canada): america light we like to tease
  4. english: the redcoats keeping an eye on us naturally
  5. french: am betting it’s sexy alexi
  6. italian: there’s only so much spaghetti one can eat
  7. german: we are way funner (not a real word, yup we know)
  8. czech: see #2
  9. japanese: USD up 15% against the yen, an oyster investment won’t fix it
  10. korean: um most likely south right?

It’s not money that makes the world go around, it’s oysters! But you do need money to purchase said oysters.

Big business decisions this week. Printing t-shirts and need to determine if our logo goes on the front or back. Folks will soon know who won which option we selected.

Come Together

Glued to the news Monday evening and all through the night. Profoundly sad and scary stuff. Boston Globe sports writer Baxter Holmes tweeted this pix today:

Chicago Tribune honors Boston this morning

Yup, choked us up too. Camaraderie is powerful. Let’s all be extra kind today. And thankful.

Stay strong Boston!

Just The Good Ol’ Boys

Was a messy game yesterday for Buck Showalter’s team yet a 5-3 win, halting the Yankees consecutive wins at 4. We’re not worried as baseball is a long season folks.
