New Tricks

BuckShowalter is having a difficult time grasping the fact that Daylight Savings ended on November 4th. And so our days now begin an hour earlier.

Hey psst, hey it’s time to get up

How to teach an old dog new tricks? We tend to be the first ones in park. Along with the drug dealers and undercover cops. By no means is that a bragging right.

Impatiently waiting while getting early morning coffee

In other new news, we’ve got an updated draught list for this evening.

Ghost In The Machine

We have a ghost in our apartment. She’s a female ghost who pretty much keeps to herself. Except that she is a smoker. Chain-smoker. We know what you’re thinking, “Chain-smoking ghosts are the worst!” Totally agree.

I am not a ghost

We’re trying to figure out a way to put her to work. After all, it’s only fair that she earns her keep. Would it be weird to have her wait tables?

Mr Snuffleupagus Saves The Day

On a very special episode of Sesame Street…a hurricane has swept through town and Big Bird is heartbroken to find that the storm has destroyed his home.

Courtesy of Sesame Workshop

Big Bird’s friends and neighbors gather to show their support and let him know over time, they can fix his home. Big Bird has moments where he is sad, angry, and confused.

WARNING: CONTAINS SPOILER ALERTS  Finally the day has come where Big Bird’s home reconstruction is complete – except the city nest inspector says it not safe, yet because the mud isn’t dry! Big Bird is sad but not for long, as Snuffleupagus comes to the rescue and Big Bird’s home passes inspection! Big Bird thanks everyone for being his friend and helping to rebuild his nest and his home.

Best television show ever folks. Give their facebook page a like or two! And remember to set your DVR for this Friday.

Smiles, Everyone – Smiles

As a kid, we (wife) were not allowed to watch #1 prime-time soap opera Dallas. Our parents prefered a show way more appropriate for children Fantasy Island.

So nightmares circa 1979 aside, we were shocked to learn that Larry Hagman, who stared as J.R. Ewing, his salary far exceeded that of the President of the United States! Was Jimmy Carter BTW, who single-handedly saved the craft-beer industry. An important life lesson Mrs. Hoffman expounded on her classroom full of naive eight-year olds.

Whether you are looking to celebrate or commiserate post-election night, come on by we’ve got a great draught line-up. Thanks to you Jimmy, thanks to you.

Vote & Volunteer (Please)

Election Day! Voting in the tri-state area will most likely be a bit bananas with the need to relocate many of the poll locations, so double check before heading out.

If you still are in need of a crash course on the issues at large, be sure to check out The Commission on the Presidential Debates mini tutorial.

Once your civic duty has been fulfilled technically voting is not a duty but rather a benefit, you can then fulfill your humanitarian duty and help out those still in need.

Some easy ways to contribute:

We are still stunned by the severe damage but so impressed with the amazing outpour of support and compassion across the nation. And while the massive donations from celebrities and corporations are tremendous, remember every little bit counts.

NYC’s Finest

We’re talking about Lydia Callis folks.

With no power for 6 days we missed Bloomberg’s many, many press conferences. But with intermittent mobile service we caught on to the growing fascination and admiration of this woman.

Our friends hanging out in Queens, with power and a bit of cabin fever posted this sketch. BTW – they did it a few days before last night’s SNL skit.

We heart you Lydia!

And now for a total non-sequitur, we are opening today at 4pm. Running our special: six oysters + 1 NY beer = $12 until 7pm. Will have a somewhat limited menu beyond oysters but everything is super fresh.

See you upstate!

Sleep No More

Thankful that family, home and shop were all safe & sound during the storm. With no power, we ended up going to bed at 8:30pm every night. We slept a lot this past week, in fact we are full and can sleep no more.

Our apartment view Monday night

It is incredibly sad, the devastation that many endured this week. There’s lots we can each do to help. The Mayor’s office has a listing of the many ways to volunteer.

Never have we been so excited to clean 2,000 oysters

We won’t be ready for business until tomorrow, Sunday. Doors will open a bit early at 4pm and we will run our happy hour special: six oysters + 1 NY beer = $12 until 7pm. And we will have a full menu offering as well.

Glad you are back NYC, it’s been a loooong week.

See you upstate!
