New Kids On The Block

Shucked 800 oysters in under two hours. Excellent afternoon, now it’s time to get ready for service.

Served beer poached oysters with red lentils and dash of hot sauce

We’re up early, prepping for The Oyster Bash. We are the rookies this year.

The Lobster Place has kindly offered their oyster purveyors for a bunch of us oyster nerds to share our favorite preparations. Ours will be beer-based, natch. We’ll be hanging in the Biergarten at The Standard, with Cooking Channel star and host of Hook, Line & Dinner, Ben Sargent. Along with the most excellent company of:

  • Ed’s Lobster Bar
  • The Mermaid Oyster Bar
  • Fishtail
  • Ed’s Chowder House
  • The Water Club
  • Five Leaves

Flock Of Seagulls

Back in the day, we (husband) thought nothing of skipping class for skating. A foolproof plan, until the local newspaper gave it up . Clearly a slooow news day.

Look closely at the delinquent on the far left.

But wait, there’s more…

Can’t make this stuff up folks

Ah the 80s, providing so many cringe-worthy memories.

Big Fish Part II

Another glamorous crack o’ dawn spent at the Fulton Fish Market. You can thank the husband for the Blair Witch Project effect.

We greatly appreciate the accolades about our oyster program. Big John is a key contributor in helping us shape our oyster offering. Not to mention he was voted most handsome fishmonger three years running.

“The price is the price” Big John’s famous negotiating tactic

Hey I Just Met You

Paid kids $10 to turn off Carly Rae Jespen’s Call Me Maybe. They were dancing for us lucky riders on the A train. The song doesn’t provide much street cred, but America’s Best Dance Crew they were not.

Fellow passengers provided a round of applause, so $10 bought sanity and a fleeting moment of popularity. Money well spent, wouldn’t you say?

We’ve got a new draught line-up, so come stop by and not to worry, that song will never make our playlist.

BuckShowalter vs Buck Showalter

Tonight’s the night, first pitch is at 6pm. Our friend Tommy is a life long Orioles fan. We’re ok with it.

Courtesy of Yankees Fans Unite

We give props to Showalter for Baltimore’s improbable, magnificent 2012 season. It will be their first home postseason game since 1997.

Nothing good comes from being an Orioles fan Tommy

It’s been sixteen years since the Yankees ousted the Orioles from the playoffs and advanced to the World Series. Their rivalry (Husband and Tommy) resumes tonight in Game 1 of the AL division series. And so begins the trash talking.

Big Fish

Got Tautog fish in the house tonight. These bad boys have teeth. Lots of teeth. And we’re serving Tautog ceviche tonight. Sans teeth. You have to pay extra for that.

Yes, fish have teeth

Speaking of big fish…we (husband) were at the Fulton Fish Market hanging with David Samuels and Big John.

Kinda looks like they are holding hands

Mr Samuels is a life long, second generation fish guy. For 70+ years his family has operated out of the fish market. He most definitely is a big deal. After all he’s the only one up there without a nickname, There’s a reason for that.
