Bromance, Ballerinas & Beers

Why yes, I have totally accepted the fact that grown men across NYC are crushing on my husband.

Proof? Chris Stang and Andrew Steinthal of  Immaculate Infatuation list of  favorite front-of-house professionals for Eater’s Welcome to Front & Center series.

Bigfoot sighting – the wife is real

“…the cherry on the sundae is the affable, always entertaining owner of the joint, Shane Covey.

We make sure to come back monthly so we can get in some Shane time. He loves to talk about his alleged wife, who we’ve never met, but heard all about. She even baked us a cake once.

Shane is a gracious host and never forgets a face. Also, he was apparently a ballerina in high school or something. Nice photo buddy.”

Hey thanks fellas, we greatly appreciate the support.

Badass ballerina

And BTW we’ve got plenty of said ballerina headshots under our bed. Happy to send an autographed one your way.

Let There Be Summer

The good folks at Brooklyn Brewery intend to keep summer alive with their latest Brewmaster’s Reserve beer Fiat Lux. Available for a limited time, 12 weeks to be exact.

And we just tapped Fiat Lux this morning, so come celebrate summer with us.

The bullpen

We’ve got a new draught lineup tonight, tons o’ oysters and picked up some Mahimahi at the market this morning. So what are you waiting for?

Oh and yes, we will be closed on Monday for Labor Day.

John Dory Glory

Went to the market this morning and picked this fella up. And now have a ceviche special to offer this evening.

Say cheese John Dory…

John Dory is a delicious white fish with moist, fine flakes and a mild, sweet flavor. But the real reason we love this fish is because it tastes like butter. Butter. Yum. The only thing better than butter is bacon and we have yet to discover a bacon fish. Until then, let us eat butter fish.

Is There A Doctor In The House?

Ah the great glory one gains with proprietorship. Followed by the not so glorious, such as slicing open one’s hand (husband) while shucking oysters.

Lucky for us, our regulars are highly accomplished professionals. Well that does not include new Ian.

Ah interns, so cheap and yet so ineffective

Saw this headline on Saturday, announcing the incredible news about the passing of an American hero. And people wonder why millennials make us (wife) mental! Stay tuned for a new draught line up and oyster selection tomorrow.

And Here’s To You Mrs. Johanson

Chef Carson and Sue from Commerce were in last night. Chef confessed that his mom, Mrs. Johanson is a bit of an upstate groupie.

But as an avid reader of this blog, she was curious to know as to why she never saw a photo of her son. Um because he doesn’t work here. After all we are known for featuring many our regulars. So here’s to you Mrs. Johanson.

War Of The Roses

Someone (husband) forgot to throw away the expired milk container. And here it sits. Waiting. Others (wife) are standing their ground and not removing it.

While not too embarrassed to tell this tale, am certainly embarrassed to admit the expiration date. But not to worry, as this is our home fridge – we keep curdled milk for ourselves. Although someone might want to remind Shane to toss the milk!

For you fine folks we have a great selection of oysters and an updated draught list.

Tasteful Technology

Those Immaculate Infatuation boys have hit it big time as TechCrunch, which we (wife) love featured them as a top NYC app. Congrats!

Follow them on twitter too: @immaculateinfat

If Eater or New York Magazine ever come out with an app, I hope it’s half as good as Immaculate Infatuation, which has become my go to for restaurant reviews & recommendations when out and about. Add any number of filters for a curated experience whether you’re looking for a drunk brunch spot or a foam party. – Peter Ha, managing editor of TechCrunch

And totally random but OMG. Can’t. Stop. Try and watch this only just once. Impossible.

Sexting 101

Not always easy being married to your business partner, but humor certainly helps

And puppies help too. Downright miraculous the power of petting a puppy.

BuckShowalter meeting his new neighbor Wile

We also recommend beer. Beer tends to make things better too. Lucky for you, we’ve got an updated draught list this evening that conveniently pairs well with our oyster selection. You’re welcome.

The South Goes Upstate

We’re the only ones in NYC to offer Broadwater Oysters from Occohannock Creek, VA. Isn’t that right Thad?

Meet Thad and his ridiculously good looking family

Always preferring to work with other owner-operated companies, especially those of like minded sustainable sensibilities – didn’t take much convincing for us to meet with Thad, son of Broadwater Oysters’ partner Ted.

Yet we all know the ultimate decision always comes down to quality. And guess what? Um actually that’s a rhetorical question. We dig their oysters, hence we carry their oysters. A little Nietzsche-esque, wouldn’t you say? Again, rhetorical folks.

So come on by to try and while you’re at it, give them a like or two. As in Facebook.

Post Prague Blog

We (wife) are back from Prague. Was shooting a film for the day job.

Folks of Zatec were kind enough to let us shoot in their town

Neighborhood kids lined up their toys to watch us film

Waiting on beer and fish deliveries, will have some interesting selections to share shortly. And no, haven’t forgotten about new Ian’s dating contest either. #dateian
