Jimmy Carter Saved Craft Beer

As we’re gearing up for the Fourth Annual NY Craft Beer week, we should all say a little thank you to Jimmy Carter.

That’s right, our 39th President de-regulated the beer market in 1979, which up until then had been tightly controlled by the government since the end of prohibition.

Hey thanks Jimmy!

And then there’s Billy Carter, younger brother to President Jimmy…

Billy Beer was first made in the US back in July 1977, by the Falls City Brewing Company, along with by Cold Spring Brewing,West End Brewing Company and Pearl Brewing Company.

Billy was selected as spokesman for the beer because he was widely known to enjoy drinking beer. But actually Billy’s beer brand of choice was PBR.

So while we do not have any PBR in the house, this week on draught we’ve got:

  • Sly Fox Ichor
  • Lake Placid IPA
  • Kelso Pale
  • O’Reily’s Stout
  • Ithaca Caskazilla
  • Peak Summit Ale
  • Captain Lawrence Smoke Porter
  • Southampton Keller Pilsner

See you upstate!
